Call for Papers: "Food Sercurity and Development Planning: FAO and the Global South in Historical Perspective" - International Conference, University of Messina

This conference takes place from 14 - 15 December 2026 at the University of Messina in Italy. It is the final event of the research project "Planning for Food Security in the 1960s: FAO and the Freedom from Hunger Campaign in Africa”. The conference organizers welcome individual original contributions in the field of history (or social sciences with a historical approach), on topics including, but not limited to (see link below for more details):

  • FAO's role in the promotion of agricultural and rural development in developing countries
  • FAO’s interactions with member states
  • FAO’s support, cooperation and/or competition with other international organizations involved in the food and agricultural field
  • FAO’s interaction with non-state actors and how this interaction shaped FAO's agenda and approach to hunger and poverty

 

Abstracts of approximately 500 words and a short CV (max. 1 page) should be submitted to the following email: faoglobalsouth@gmail.com by 10 September 2026.
