Farewell from Outgoing AEGIS President Amanda Hammar and Welcome Message from Incoming AEGIS President Michael Bollig

During ECAS 2025, Michael Bollig (Gobal South Studies Center, University of Colonge) took over the Presidency of AEGIS from Amanda Hammar (University of Copenhagen), who served as AEGIS President for six years.

Farewell from Outgoing AEGIS President Amanda Hammar

For the past six years (2019 – 2025) I have been immensely privileged to lead AEGIS but am now very excited to pass the baton to our new AEGIS President, Professor Michael Bollig from the University of Cologne. Michael assumed this role during our most recent ECAS conference in Prague (25-28 June 2025), which according to wide feedback was experienced as an exhilarating event, academically, creatively and socially. Admittedly the large size meant having too many excellent panels and performances to choose from. Yet it showcased the scale and diversity of our ever-growing (global) community of African Studies scholars are welcomed to ECAS every two years in a different European city, organized by one of our AEGIS member institutions.

Welcome Message from Incoming AEGIS President Michael Bollig

At ECAS10 in Prague, I had the honour of taking over the presidency of AEGIS from Amanda Hammar.

I am deeply grateful for the trust placed in me and look forward to continuing Amanda’s inspiring work together with colleagues across our vibrant network. In this role, I am committed to strengthening the vital role of Europe–Africa relations in advancing academic research and dialogue, particularly within the diverse disciplines represented by AEGIS.
