This panel will summarize  main findings of a case study on Somali civil society and peacebuilding which tests a series of conventional claims about the peace-building role and potential of civil society against the Somali experience of conflict since 1988; civic peace-building in non-permissive environments: The Case of Galmudug, Central Somalia; lessons on civil society’s role in consolidating and protecting the peace in Somaliland; history of mediation in Somalia: trends and lessons learned; as well as include an update on the civic efforts to consolidate peace in northern Kenya.
