AbstractAlthough radio drama is rarely studied as a form of cultural production, it is in fact one of the most important sources of cultural knowledge. Radio drama is the enactment of the daily lives of the people from whom it is drawn and as such continously informs, entertains, and teaches those who listen to it. In Kenya, radio drama appears to operate within the fringes of radio broadcasting as the more vibrant commercial FM stations focus on producing music and other forms of entertainment. However, a closer look at the Kenyan cultural scene reveals an interesting role that radio drama continues to play in the Kenyan society. Focusing on a programme titled Radio Theatre, Kenya's longest running radio drama programme produced in the English language for the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC), this paper endevours to find the relevance of radio drama in a society that seems to be moving away from the more traditional forms of entertainment.
