European conferences on African studies

Past and future ECAS conferences

AEGIS organises the biennial European Conference on African Studies (ECAS). The first ECAS was held at the School of Oriental and African Studies and the Institute of Commonwealth Studies in London in July 2005; the second conference was held at the African Studies Centre in Leiden, Netherlands, in July 2007. The Institute of African Studies at the University of Leipzig, Germany, hosted AEGIS third conference, from 4 to 7 June 2009. The 4th European Conference on African Studies was held from 15-18 June 2011 in Uppsala, Sweden. All past conferences were a great success. The same is hoped and expected for the 5th European Conference on African Studies, in 2013 in Lisbon. See the promo video.
