AEGIS is a research network of European studies centres which aims to create synergies between experts and institutions. With primary emphasis on Social Sciences and Humanities, AEGIS' main goal is to improve understanding about contemporary African societies.

AEGIS Summer School: African Dynamics in the Global World. Cortona, Tuscany, Italy, 18-24 June 2012. Call for papers (PDF).

New book in AEGIS book series: "African Engagements - Africa Negotiating an Emerging Multipolar World" edited by Ton Dietz, Mayke Kaag, Kjell Havnevik and Terje Oestigaard. The chapters in the book raise questions as to how the influence of China, India and Brazil will offer African countries and groups greater room for negotiation and manoeuvre.

50th Anniversary Conference of the Centre of African Studies, University of Edinburgh, 6-8 June 2012

Over 2012, the Centre of African Studies (CAS) in Edinburgh will celebrate its 50th anniversary. The focal point for the year-long celebrations will be an international conference from 6-8 June on the theme of CAS@50: Cutting Edges and Retrospectives.
